Threat to Dada's daughter: CID interrogates 5

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday (October 8) said they were interrogating five persons in connection with the letters, received by cricketer Sourav Ganguly's family, threatening to kidnap his daughter Sana.

"We are already on the job. We are conducting a thorough probe. We are interrogating five persons in this connection," DIG (Operations) of the CID S Gupta said.

Two letters were received by Sourav Ganguly's family, one as recently as 10 days ago, threatening to kidnap his daughter for a ransom of Rs 2 crore, Additional Director General CID Bhupinder Singh said.

"There were two letters, one which was hand delivered as it arrived without any post marks. The other was sent from the Esplanade post office by Speed Post," Singh said.

The one delivered a month ago when Sourav was abroad and the other received ten days ago and was sent by Speed Post, he said.

Both the letters were addressed to Sourav's wife, Dona. The letters, he said, threatened to kidnap Sana for ransom of Rs two crore.

"Gangulys didn't give much importance to the first letter as they were abroad at that time, but after they received the second letter they were worried and approached the CID," Singh said.
